This two-day exclusive gathering – involving over thirty of Crisis Group’s senior staff and expert Board members – will take you beyond the headlines to examine urgent issues and solutions to the major conflict flashpoints across the globe today. The briefing is targeted at mid-level and senior representatives from governments, multilaterals, think tanks, NGOs, media, foundations, corporations and universities and will be limited to 120 participants.

Crisis Group Global Briefing 2010

The International Crisis Group is pleased to announce its flagship annual event, The Global Briefing: an exclusive two-day, high-level event examining urgent issues and solutions concerning major conflict flashpoints across the globe. The briefing offers an opportunity to go beyond the headlines and hear from and interact with over thirty of Crisis Group’s field-based senior staff and Board members assembled for this unique occasion.

Date & Location
The briefing will take place in Brussels on 25-26 October 2010 at the Sofitel Brussels Europe, 1 Place Jourdan, Brussels, Belgium.

The briefing will take place in English. There will be two plenary sessions and ten break-out sessions over the two days. Participants may attend up to five of the break-out sessions and must indicate their preferences on the registration form (see below). The following plenary and break-out sessions will be offered:

Plenary sessions:

  1. Declining Western Influence and the Implications for Deadly Conflict
  2. Positive Signs and Trends in Conflict: A Special Presentation

 

Break-out sessions:

  1. Afghanistan, Pakistan: Signs of Concern, Signs of Hope
  2. Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament: Where to Go from Here
  3. Conflict in the Middle East: Realities Beyond the Headlines
  4. Elections in Nigeria and the DRC: The Year Ahead
  5. Turkey on the Rise: The Implications for Cyprus, the EU and Beyond
  6. Legacies of War and the Problem of Peace: The View from Sri Lanka and Nepal
  7. Corruption, Crime and Conflict: From Central Asia to the Andes
  8. South East Asia: Divergent Paths
  9. Sudan: The Referendum and Beyond
  10. The U.S. and China: Contrasting Approaches to Global Conflict

 

Each session will involve interaction and discussion between panelists and participants, and will run according to the Chatham House Rule.

The briefing will be limited to a maximum of 120 participants.

Target Participants
The briefing is primarily geared to mid-level and senior representatives from governments, multilaterals, think tanks, NGOs, media, foundations, corporations and universities. Crisis Group welcomes expressions of interest from others too.

Fee & Lodging Details
The participation fee is 975 Euros and payable within 15 business days following receipt of an acceptance letter. The fee includes attendance at the event, as well as lunches, coffee breaks and a special reception at Brussels’ historic Hôtel de Ville in Grand Place.

For those coming from outside Brussels, Crisis Group has reserved single rooms at the Sofitel Brussels Europe. Participants will be responsible for booking and paying for the rooms themselves. Additional details concerning hotel booking options will be contained in Global Briefing acceptance letters.
