D66 head of list Sophie in 't Veld

The Dutch social liberals of D66 have elected Sophie in ’t Veld MEP as head of list for next year’s European elections. In 't Veld is currently the leader of the party’s three-member strong delegation in the European Parliament and will be leading D66 in the European elections for a third consecutive time. She expressed her gratitude for the support and trust that the D66-membership gave her and vowed to keep working for a ‘strong, resolute and democratic Europe. A move away from the old Europe of diplomats and secrecy towards a political union of citizens’.

In ’t Veld’s election was announced at D66’s party congress in Utrecht on Saturday 2 November. The other candidate was Marietje Schaake MEP. The party will adopt its European manifesto and the remainder of the list of candidate MEP's during next year’s congress on 7 and 8 February 2014.
